About Derek

For folk artist Derek Lee Bishop, of Raeford North Carolina, activism means more than writing a chorus to be chanted at rallies, it means taking action – and with the release of his debut L.P. Better Days, which will see all proceeds split between the charities Project Red Light Rescue and Gospel for Asia, he intends to take that action into his own hands.

The 29 year old Bishop wrote Better Days while performing at coffee shops throughout southwest Missouri. The eight track album is a collection of personal confessions put to song, with stirring lyrics and calming melodies which touch on spirituality, hope, forgiveness, fatherhood and love. Bishop’s unique finger style approach to guitar playing and hushed, restrained vocals give him a sound all his own, while simultaneously recalling artists such as Iron & Wine and William Fitzsimmons.
