Down With The Sickness

It's pretty clear that Jesus was against murder and revenge.

(Matthew 5:21-22, 5:38-42, 5:43-48)

In the above passages, Jesus tells his followers to love their enemies and

to never take revenge. He also taught that hatred is on the same level as murder

and that neither will be tolerated.

So, since I'm a follower of Christ, then these things must become a part of

who I am. I must resist the urges to take revenge and kill my enemies.

So, follow this line of thought with me:

If it's wrong for me to murder then it must be wrong for my family to murder.

If it's wrong for my family to murder then it must be wrong for my town to murder.

If it's wrong for my town to murder then it must be wrong for my county to murder.

If it's wrong for my county to murder then it must be wrong for my state to murder.

If it's wrong for my state to murder then it must be wrong for my country to murder.

The rules for the one are the same as the rules for the many.

The rules for the individual are the same as the rules for the governement.

Now I need to clarify, if you don't follow Jesus then these rules don't apply to you.

Kill whoever you want.

Desire blood.

Deisre revenge (justice).

Love War.

But the christian in the world must walk a different path. We are called to a

different standard. Because of Jesus' words about murder and revenge,

I cannot support war or the death penalty.

Sometimes, I wish he hadn't said those words. Sometimes, I wish he would

have said: "Protect your family by any means necessary" or

"Take revenge on those who deserve it." But, he didn't.

It would be so much easier to go around and off everyone who gets in my way.

But, I can't do that because I have chosen to submit my life to Jesus' teachings.

My hope is that the church will continue to resist the common practices of

supporting murder and revenge. If we really are pro-life then we must support life. All life.

Who are we to condemn others to death?

We are not God. We cannot see what He sees; we do not know what He knows.

Wouldn't it be better to let Him decide who lives and who dies?

Down with the Death Penalty. Down with War. Down with the sickness.
